How to get a transparent background in 3 steps

  1. Add a photo

    Drop it, paste it with Ctrl+V / ⌘V, or choose it from your phone or computer. JPG, PNG and WebP work.

  2. Wait a few seconds

    An AI model running on your device finds the subject and removes the background. The checkerboard behind the subject means it is transparent.

  3. Download the PNG

    The PNG keeps the transparency. If something is left over, use Edit cutout to erase it or bring parts back.

What is a transparent PNG?

A PNG can have areas with no colour at all. When you place the image on a slide, a document, a web page or another picture, whatever is behind it shows through. That is what makes a cut-out subject easy to reuse.

Why not a transparent JPG?

JPG cannot be transparent. If you need a JPG, choose a background colour or image first and download that. For a transparent result, always use the PNG.

How do I make the background transparent?

Add your photo. Alphelo removes the background automatically and shows the result on a checkerboard, which means it is transparent. Then download the PNG.

Can I download a transparent JPG?

No: JPG cannot be transparent. Download the PNG, or choose a background to get a JPG.

Is the result the same size as my photo?

Yes, a PNG at the full resolution of your photo. On phones, tablets and computers with little memory, very large photos (over 16 megapixels) are scaled down.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The AI model runs inside your browser, on your own device, so your photo is never sent to a server.
